I think that info is currently correct, but I encourage you to check and question everything. Unfortunately I had to go by Wikipedia because at the time of my writing it was easier to find out which cities and towns were part of the Massachusetts 3rd Congressional District by searching Wikipedia than it was to go through a government website that is supposed to be designed to show this info, but I digress.
Anyways, yes, all of you above people, I’m talking to you. To us. I’m not sure how we got to the point that we as a group of constituents became so far removed from local and national politics that we weren’t even aware of what Congressional District we were in, but here we are. And here, on November 8th, we have an opportunity to change that.
Okay, let’s back up. Let’s have a little review. We all know that each state elects 2 Senators to be part of the United States Senate in Washington, D.C. right? Those are pretty straightforward. But did you remember that each state also elects a varying number of Representatives to go to Washington, D.C. and be part of the House of Representatives? The amount that each state elects is based on the population in that state, and the state is then broken up into districts. Ours is the 3rd of 9 in Massachusetts.
Now, I’m guessing that many people probably have no idea who our current elected representative is, do you? Or maybe you’ve seen signs outside recently so it’s fresh in your memory now, but for the rest of the year, you probably don’t think too much about this person, right? What kind of influence could this person representing a little old town like Dracut for example, possibly have on our national politics anyways?
Well. Have you heard of Nancy Pelosi? Or Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) and her “squad”? What about Kevin McCarthy? Jim Jordan? Marjorie Taylor Greene?
That’s how much influence this person representing someone from little old Dracut, Massachusetts could have.
Love them or hate them, Nancy Pelosi, AOC and the “squad”, Kevin McCarthy, Jim Jordan, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and 400+ others are members of the United States House of Representatives. And once again, on November 8th, we as members of the Massachusetts 3rd Congressional District have a chance to elect one of our own.
The Representative that we elect will have the same voting power as the above mentioned people. He or she will work alongside them, serving on committees and making national rules and regulations that will trickle all the way down to our little old cities and towns. The influence has the potential to be absolutely enormous. It always has.
So if the potential for enormous influence has always been there, why didn’t we know about it? Honestly, I’m not completely sure. But I’m guessing it’s a combination of several things, including a lack of education about it in schools, a distorted image of it by the media, and the general craziness of life and busy schedules that hinders our ability to completely focus on the politics that control us.
I’m also guessing it’s because our current Representative, the incumbent running for reelection, hasn’t been influential enough. I mean, unless you live across from one of the fields where her sign is displayed, do you even know her name? Unless you remember the hushed news stories a couple years ago regarding her alleged campaign finance laws violations, do you even know who she is?
I’m not looking to focus on blaming any of these reasons right now, though. At this point the best thing we can do as citizens of the great United States of America is to educate ourselves as much as possible in the short amount of time that we have left before the November 8th election.
Watch their debate (it starts getting good about 13 minutes in).
Follow the candidates’ social media pages. Listen to them speak directly. Whatever you can do to learn about who will be representing your city or town at the national level, do it.
After I invested just a short amount of time in doing the above things, I learned that Dean Tran is the man. You can check out his website here:
https://www.deantran.com
Dean Tran is the Republican Candidate for the Massachusetts 3rd Congressional District. He is an immigrant from Vietnam who has worked hard and sacrificed to achieve the American dream. He is a husband, father, and family man. He is highly respected in the Fitchburg community and has already represented his neighbors as a Massachusetts City Councilor and a State Senator. Dean Tran relates to the common people and looks out for the regular men, women, and children in our state.
As far as the issues go, Dean Tran is a strong supporter of American Freedoms, Public Safety, and Border Security. He is in favor of policies that would allow for more Energy Production in our own country, which would drive down oil prices. He is also looking to direct more federal money to the local level for Infrastructure purposes. Finally, Dean Tran wants to stop wasteful spending and strengthen our Economy.
In addition to all of this, he is also showing bipartisanship with social issues as well. Even as a Republican, Dean Tran has said that he does not support cutting social services of any kind, and he is not looking to change the state’s abortion laws either, as he is in favor of this topic being decided at the state level. It appears that there are many aspects of Dean Tran’s stances that are appealing to a variety of beliefs.
Can you imagine the possibilities that we would have with Dean Tran in the House of Representatives? This intelligent, hardworking Republican immigrant would be the first Asian-American Representative to serve from our state, and that combined with his strong and common sensical leadership ideas would surely put our little old 3rd Congressional District on the map. Just think of the positive attention he could bring to us. And we all know that with this attention would come the money, power, and influence that could positively impact all of our cities and towns. We could have a true Representative down in Washington, D.C. And we’d remember his name and where he comes from.
So, in the short amount of time that we have before the November 8th election, I encourage you to learn about our candidates. Figure out who best represents you and the kind of community that you want to live in. I’m guessing that if enough people truly take the time to do this, then Dean Tran will be the next Representative of the Massachusetts 3rd Congressional District. Please vote. The future direction of our country, state, and city or town depends on it.
